No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town. It’s more than a mission statement—it’s a movement. And in April, our Abbey Mecca video team packed up the gear, boarded a flight to Salt Lake City, and hit the road to Lehi, Utah, to help tell that story.
Our mission: capture the heart and hustle of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a national nonprofit powered by passionate volunteers building beds for kids who don’t have one. We’re producing an inspirational video that shines a spotlight on SHP and encourages people to start new chapters in their own communities.
Over three packed days, we interviewed 12 members of the SHP family—including founder Luke Mickelson and executive director Jordan Allen—who shared powerful stories about what drives their commitment. We heard about first builds, first deliveries, and the first time they realized just how big of an impact one bed can make in a child’s life.
And while our lenses were focused on the work, we also captured the why behind it. These are people who roll up their sleeves not for credit, but for kids. For community. For hope. The video, once completed, will be a key piece in SHP’s effort to grow their network of chapters across the country.
Of course, no Abbey Mecca shoot would be complete without a little fun. Between takes, we took in the incredible Utah scenery, and confirmed that yes, it’s possible to be inspired and exhausted at the same time. (Shout out to Melissa, Paul, Liam, and Dan for making the magic happen.)
